Xiao Xing Hu: A Remarkable Journey in Watercolor Art

Xiao Xing Hu is an internationally acclaimed artist renowned for his extraordinary watercolor paintings, each offering a unique glimpse into life from his distinctive perspective. His artistic journey has been marked by numerous prestigious awards and recognition. Two of his remarkable works, “Nepal Men” and “Plaid Scarf,” secured first place and the “Masters Award” in the National Watercolor Society, U.S. exhibitions in 2013. In 2014, “Professor at Katmandu University” received the Artist Magazine Award in the National Watercolor Society’s 94th International Exhibition.

Xiao Xing Hu’s lifelong dedication to art began in his formative years. Born and raised in a traditional household in Kunming, China, amidst the challenges of the Cultural Revolution of the 1950s, his early life was marked by hardships and significant changes. Despite these adversities, he pursued his passion for art. Xiao Xing’s keen eye for detail and the world around him led him to capture everyday scenes through drawing and painting. He found joy in depicting the labor of the people, the animals, and the elders in his community.

His journey from a young farmer in the south of Yunnan Province to becoming an official propagandist for the Kunming Railway Bureau was a testament to his perseverance and determination. In 1988, he earned his diploma from Yunnan Art University, realizing a dream that had been two decades in the making. Throughout his career, Xiao Xing Hu never wavered in his commitment to his craft. He spent countless hours in his studio, even now dedicating eight hours each day to his work without weekends off.

Xiao Xing Hu’s relentless pursuit of his passion has led to a wealth of accomplishments. He is a Signature Member of the American Watercolor Society and a Master Signature Member of the National Watercolor Society in the U.S. In China, he serves as the Director of the Watercolor Arts Committee of Yunnan Artists Association and holds the esteemed position of President of the Kunming Painting Association. His watercolor paintings have garnered over one hundred awards.
